Transfer Crush Tuesday: J. Cesar Flores (4/28/15)

This weeks Transfer Crush Tuesday.......J Cesar Flores!

Here is what he had to say:

"I really enjoy listening to hip-hop and rap music, especially in the morning to break a leg and get my day rollen’. Two of my favorite musicians are Yeezy and Skateboard P because they have a magic touch to their rhythms and lyrics. I’m a third year transfer, Spanish major, and seeking law school after graduating from UCLA. What I love most about UCLA is the geographical location of having Los Angeles at my fingertips. When I’m not in class I’m usually around town trying new places for lunch or dinner. One of my favorite places to grab a good grub is Carney’s off of Sunset, for Sushi I recommend Sushi Naples in Old Town Pasadena—stuffed jalapeno roll deep-fried in tempura with crab meat, and cream cheese makes for a meal that sticks to my ribs. For Burgers, I recommend Slater’s 50/50 in Pasadena. But my favorite food is Italian, I love lasagna, my girlfriend makes the best lasagna I’ve ever! I also like Mexican food, and especially love Cuban. And no I don’t’ like Porto’s grin emoticon. It took me a little longer than the traditional two years to make it to UCLA, but I’m so excited I’m here. I really enjoy my Spanish professor Prof. Van Delden, the literature is taught from a sociological perspective. I always look for ways to culture myself and become aware of other people’s customs, in order to experience life in a different light. I step outside of my comfort zone to get to know myself in different occasions and to meet others. YOLO. I know this is going to sound random, but Trader Joe’s has really good Babka cake, it has the perfect blend of butter, chocolate and coffee, I’m sure there’s a box waiting for all forty thousand Bruins.

On the real though, I like to mention that there’s an increasing wage gab between the middle class and the wealthy, furthermore as consumers, we must become aware of the quality of food we consume because even though may be organic, pesticides and hormone free produce, by the time it arrives at groceries, they’ve lost a significant amount of their nutritional value. As Bruins, my Transfer Crush Tuesday Tip is become aware of perspectives outside of UCLA. My Two Transfer Crush Tuesday Tome Titles’ are “Screwed the Undeclared War Against the Middle Class” by Thom Hartman and “A Government of Wolves and Emerging Police State” By John W. Whitehead."

Transfer Crush Tuesday: Keytiana Hempstead (04/21/15)

Happy Tuesday!! Today our Transfer Crush is Keytiana Hempstead!!

She's is an awesome transfer and active in our transfer family!! Here is more about her:

"If anyone told me a few years ago that I would be going to UCLA, I would have laughed at them. I applied to the UC's on a whim and at the urge of a professor at my Community College and cried when I got into all of them. My community at home and especially my younger brother who wants to transfer to UCLA's School of Nursing is what keeps me going everyday. I love being able to help the people who felt the way I did when I thought UCLA was unattainable. I am so proud to be a Bruin but more importantly, I am proud to be a Bruin Transfer"

If you want to hear more about Keytiana's involvement here at UCLA feel free to contact her. Way to go Keytiana!

Transfer Crush Tuesday: Ariel Rafalian (04/14/15)

Hey Everyone! meet our Transfer Crush Tuesday! Ariel Rafalian!!

He is an awesome person and very active in the Transfer community! here is more about him:
I freakin love UCLA! As soon as I got here, I saw all the wonderful opportunities to get involved. It was a challenge choosing what organizations I wanted to be a part of, but after much rumination I got involved with Tamid and within the Transfer Advocacy Committee in the IVP office. I’m proud to be a transfer because we all bring a wealth of unique experiences to our campus making it the best university ever!

Ps I got rejected from UCLA out of high school and I was truly heartbroken; however, my frustration fueled my motivation to transfer in one year and join this Bruin nation!

If you wanna know more about what Ariel is involved in, how he got started, and how much he LOVES! UCLA feel free to contact him!

Transfer Crush Tuesday: Jenny Sawhney (04/07/15)

HEY HAPPY TUESDAY!!! Today our transfer crush is Jenny Sawhney!! she is an awesome transfer student who has been involved on campus and has even been part of travel abroad!
Here is more about Jenny:

I transferred to UCLA Fall 2013 from Santa Rosa Junior College in Northern California as a Global Studies Major. I am currently writing my senior thesis on music of the Caribbean & hip hop in Cuba, I... hold a position in Alumni Scholars Club, am part of a sorority, and try to work out 3-4 times a week while getting 8 hours of sleep.

When I first came to UCLA, I was driven to make the most of my time here, but that was overshadowed by the loneliness I initially felt. My first quarter was just academically and emotionally difficult. I eventually found a really solid group of friends who were also going through the same experiences as me – other transfers! We all came from different places and backgrounds, but I think we found a lot of solace in one another because we were going through the transition together. It definitely took some time to develop such strong friendships, but it has made my experience worthwhile. I would suggest to other transfers to take every day one step at a time. Don’t be afraid to reach out to other people if you feel low and try to take in all the crazy, hectic, amazing things happening around you. It goes by quickly!

If you would like to get some advice for her on how she balances everything in her schedule or about what she has participated in shes a very cheerful and welcoming person and is ready to help out her fellow transfers!!
